North Carolina’s Outer Banks is a haven for those into Lighthouses. Although our main purpose for going was to visit a good friend who lives on the southern tip, we didn’t miss the opportunity to shoot as many lighthouses as possible, as well as the wildlife and surrounding landscapes.
Within the Outer Banks area, you’ll find Ocrocoke Lighthouse, the infamous (and movable) Cape Hatteras Lighthouse, Currituck Beach Lighthouse, Bodie Island Lighthouse, Cape Lookout Lighthouse and Oak Island Lighthouse to name a few. If you plan properly, you can hit 5 of them by car in a single day by traversing down the entire banks hitting Currituck, Bodie, Hatteras, Ocracoke and finally Cape Lookout. Watch out for timings of the water taxi’s though – especially to and from Ocracoke Island.
If you do travel through the Outer Banks, try to take a side trip to Wrights Brothers National Memorial located in Kill Devil Hills.
